The Flower Boutique

About

The Flower Boutique first opened its doors in the early 80s, when it was situated on King Street. The first owners were Frank and Agnes McGreal, until they retired in 1992, and sold the business to Mrs Susan Taylor. In 1995, The Flower Boutique moved premises to the present location on Wallasey Road, but in 2007 Susan decided to retire and sold the business to the Manager, who is still the owner and head florist to this day.

Meet the Team

Sharon

Sharon started her floristry career in 1989, where she applied to be a trainee florist on the YTS scheme. This was college and work based training, which helped her gain City and Guilds level 1 and 2 in floristry. In 1991, she enrolled on a BTEC level 3 course in floristry which was one-year, full time in college, one year in a shop environment and then one final year in college, in total a three-year course. Sharon started working at The Flower Boutique on the 14th September 1992 as one of the team of florists, during her 3-year BTEC course. In 1994 Sharon qualified to level 3 floristry with distinction, even receiving an award for the highest mark in the practical exam.

The following year, Sharon became the Manager when the shop moved to Wallasey road, then in 2007, purchased the business from Mrs Taylor. Sharon went back to college in 2008, enrolling on the Master Diploma in Professional Floristry level 5 course which she received in 2009. The same year she received 1st place and 2nd place in two out of four competitions for the regional heats for Interflora Florist of the year.

When the World Flower Council came to the UK in 2011, Sharon volunteered to design some of the floral displays to be used for the tables at the Gala Dinner and help some of the designers in their hands-on workshops.

During June 2016, Sharon received a scholarship to attend The American Institute of Floral Design’s Symposium in California, USA for a week, there she helped construct some of the floral designs for The Academy of Floral arts program. Then eight months later she was back in the states working on the American Institute of Floral Design’s stand at the 2017 Philadelphia Flower Show.

In 2018, Sharon took her practical exam in Washington DC, to become a member of American Institute of Floral Design, and passed to become a certified floral member of AIFD.   During February 2019, she was back in Philadelphia Flower Show to work on the AIFD exhibit.  Sharon is part of fixtures and fittings of the Flower Boutique.

Samantha

Samantha joined The Flower Boutique in November 2013, whilst studying for her level 2 Floristry, at St James Centre, Birkenhead, qualifying the following year with distinction. She then enrolled onto the Level 3 floristry course at Coleg Cambria in Northop which she attended for a year, but unfortunately the course was suspended due to funding, so didn't complete the full course.

Cerys

We also have a young lady Cerys, who attends one of the local schools. She has been part of our team for the past four years and can talk the hind legs off a donkey.as cancelled due to funding. Sam is the comedian of the shop and enjoys a lot of banter
